Getting Started^
The first thing you'll need is an ICQ account. You can get one super-easy at the ICQ registration page∞.Why not GTalk/Jabber?
Maybe in the future, but the interface class I found was too problematic.
Why not MSN?
It's closed-source. Possibly if I went through the gaim source code I could figure it out, but that's a lot of work for a back-burner project.
Client Software^
You'll also need client software. You do not need to use the actual ICQ software, and in fact I recommend against it, unless you like ads. There are lots of IM applications that handle multiple chat protocols. Some options (please add to the list):Windows

Registering^
After you create your account and connect to the ICQ network, add the FishBot to your buddy list. The FishBot's ICQ UIN ("screen name") is 412211165. Start a conversation. If you are unknown to the FishBot, type:!register WikiName WikiPass
(Where, of course, WikiName is your user ID on this wiki, and WikiPass is your password on this wiki). If all goes well, Fishbot will say that you are registered. From now on, FishBot will recognize you automatically when you start a conversation.
Commands^
New commands will probably be showing up all the time, so keep an eye on the list. All commands start with an exclamation mark (!) except the special "?" command which is an alias of "!help":- !register WikiName WikiPass
- Perform registration (associates your ICQ UIN with your WikiName).

- last fishbowl entries. if N is supplied, last N entries; if not, last entry.

- add a fishbowl entry (only if you're registered)

- broadcasts the message to all other users currently connected to FishBot.
